SERIOUS GAMES MEDIA LITERACY

Project summary:With the aim of combating conspiracy theories, we have created a serious game dedicated to media and information literacy, with a special focus on the issue of “current” information. The tool is based on research. It can be used to tackle the issue of “conspiracy theories” and “fake news” with young people, but is not limited to them. The game enables animators to combat conspiracy theories and strengthen young people’s information skills and critical thinking through production and communication activities.

Features: Designed for young people aged 14 to 18, Newcraft has been conceived above all as a tool to be used as part of a complete educational session. It has therefore been designed with a dedicated teaching kit. The game is therefore an opportunity to work in workshops and groups to solve puzzles and learn while playing.

Game rules: The player takes on the role of a journalist working in the newsroom of an online news medium. The player chooses the newsroom in which he or she works. Each newsroom has a specific editorial line. Each day, the player must publish news items to feed the media’s home page. Depending on the newsroom in which the player works, he or she will have to publish the most rigorous and honest information possible (or not) in order to meet the daily objectives imposed by his or her newsroom, while ensuring that his or her publications achieve the most views possible (with regard to the criteria imposed by his or her newsroom at this level).

Player’s objectives : -Increase the editorial audience by reaching daily publication targets

-Acquire and maintain a good reputation thanks to the quality of his publications By reaching these objectives, the player will be rewarded (promotion / evolution within the editorial team, additional resources). Certain choices may trigger external events (positive or negative).

Training: To better support the game and young people’s learning, a hands-on training course is available for educators, and a pedagogical guide has been designed for teachers and educators.
