Unesco Chair for the Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism

The association “Conveyors of Knowledge” is a partner of the Unesco-Prev Chair. Professor Alava, who is the president of the association, participated in its creation. The association has co-organized several events aimed at developing the chair and at developing research and innovation projects in France and in Europe.

The Unesco Chair was created in the autumn of 2017. The main mission of the Chair is to act as a centre of excellence, and to develop, share and enhance research and projects in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of violent radicalization and extremism. It promotes close collaboration between researchers and communities of practice in a comparative, multidisciplinary and north-south perspective.

The Chair’s main objectives are:

A) To identify, facilitate networking and improve cooperation between expertise centres and structures and communities of practice in the field of radicalization prevention, in Canada and across the world;

B) To ensure a high level of expertise and develop innovative action-oriented research programs, as well as evidence-based models and best practices, to guide public policies and programs in the prevention of violent radicalization and extremism locally, nationally and internationally;

C) To support capacity-building for key stakeholders, in particular for researchers, education professionals and communities, including online;

D) To ensure awareness, visibility and knowledge sharing for the general public and the media.
