Together against school dropout - Fondation de France
Within the framework of our research and training project, we collaborated with a parents’ association in Tarbes to help promote educational support and prevent school dropout. We worked with Paul Eluard High School on this fourfold project:
- to associate national education personnel, parents, social workers/facilitators and educators in field actions on the subject of school dropout,
- to promote cooperation between schools and all parents,
- to prevent school dropout by ensuring a smooth transition between primary and secondary school,
- to encourage experience exchange.
During this 5-day training course, Séraphin ALAVA worked with 11 primary and secondary school professionals (managers, educational advisers, medical and social advisers, career advisers, teachers, special education teachers, etc.). 10 parents and 10 educational partners were divided into 2 groups. The course took place within the parents’ association.
This research-action training allowed for the development of seven more projects:
- We created an information leaflet to help children facing educational difficulties, designed for parents, to explain peoples’ role in the prevention of school drop-out and to demonstrate the links between various solutions;
- We created a career discovery plan from primary school onwards (part of the CLAS);
- We created a plan to develop the DRE “Parents’ Support” program;
- We relay the work of the J. Verne School’s Parents’ Association and adapting their program to support middle school pupils;
- We ensure that a homework help system is made available to all pupils facing educational difficulties (educational support, CLAS, student associations, etc.);
- We designed a selection of methodological documents for pupils, which may be used by anyone taking part in schooling (including parents) and the pupils themselves;
- We established a protocol to help support temporarily excluded students.
